S1 Episode 5 - A’lahn | Singer & Songwriter

Shernita Matthews professionally known as “A’lahn” is a Neo-Soul/Rhythm & Blues artist from Baltimore, Maryland. She is a classically trained Soprano who is able to captivate audiences with the richness of her unique sound. A’lahn’s love for music started at age four when she would accompany her uncle to church to play the piano, and when her mom began singing to her.

A’lahn attended Patapsco High School & Center for the Arts as a vocal music major. She has performed with the Chamber Choir of Baltimore, Patriot Choir, and All Honors Choir of Maryland. She has also had the opportunity to open for “Ant Glizzy,” a local artist from Washington D.C. In November 2020, A’lahn was featured as a special guest performer at the Baltimore Soundstage Rage Fest.

Currently, A’lahn is working on her debut single that will be released in January 2021. The song is titled, “Save Me,” and it focuses on the feeling of loneliness and the sentiment of being misunderstood. Not only does A’lahn desire to make relatable music, but she hopes to leave an indelible impression on her audience. She is described as a brilliant artist who seeks to be a life toucher for those who consume her music.

On this episode of the podcast, A’lahn shared how she became an artist who was originally signed under a record label to an independent artist. She touched on COVID-19 and how the pandemic shifted things within her career/goals, and she shed some light on the importance of mental health and taking the time to reconnect with yourself.
